Descended Upon

Sorry about blogspot yesterday. What a pain. The comments flat out wouldn't work.

Descended upon--yes, that's what happening today. Actually started last night. At our Coeur d'Alene home, this is the fourth annual gathering of a group of writer friends. They will stay until Monday morning. All together there are 11 of us. Can't get any bigger than that, because we'd run out of beds and space around the table. We take turns helping each other plot a book--each writer gets a set amount of time to "present" a novel's premise and hear ideas from the other novelists as to how to expand it into a full story. Then in the afternoon and evening we play.

My husband, who arrives today, always feel a bit overrun. It's a combination of all the estrogen and novelist mentality. In other words--crazy all around.

This is also a wonderful time of fellowship and praying together. Bottom line, I guess you could say we work hard, play hard, and pray hard. And we're LOUD. Believe me, the whole bay will know the troops have arrived.

If you haven't tried getting with a group of novelists to help plot books, I recommend it. What's really cool is to see the book written, then eventually out on the shelves, and know you had a part in it.

Perhaps I'll see if one of my wild friends wants to take part in a guest post for tomorrow. Although turning them loose on my blog does make me break out in a cold sweat.

That sounds absolutely wonderful!!!

What a terrific idea!

I'm counting to see how many beds are in the house and how many people I know...

That does sound wonderful. Anytime one can get together with other neurotic, moody writers who only listen to half of what you say because they're mentally plotting their novels as you try to have a conversation is a great time. I can't wait for September to surround myself with such.

Oh, have a wonderful time. I can't wait to read the fruit of this weekend in a couple years. And Michelle, it is great to get together and brainstorm with others. It really helps kick the plot and writing up a notch. Two, three or four brains are so much better than mine all on its own.

I absolutely love to brainstorm plot ideas. It's one of my favorite parts of the writing life. Fot the time being, my CPs and I do it over the phone with conference calls. It works, but there's nothing like being together. Have a wonderful and productive time! (Tell Deb I said hey.)

My critique partners and I did this last summer. And wow, this summer I'm going to pitch the novel! They are also finished with theirs. It is a wonderful way to begin writing a book. Hope you all have lots of fun!

Wow... big props to your husband. I have a slight idea what he must be going through...

Sounds like a barrel of monkies style fun!

We did that at the last conference and had a great time. I'd love to "retreat" with some buds and plot plot plot. For those of us separated by many miles, Yahoo IM is great for that. Not quite the same, but you take what you can get.

I love that idea! Wish there were more close to me so we could start something similar.

Hey members of ACFW, don't forget that local chapters are forming. Those are an excellent way to meet more local writers and connect. I have my online ACFW crit group, but I also now have three ladies within an hour or two of me that I email with and meet with every month or so. We hold each other accountable, encourage, prod, crit, brainstorm, etc. You may be surprised who you find, especially as ACFW continues to grow

I can hear the brains whirring and the laughter drumming all the way from here. Sounds like a ball, Brandilyn. Hope you all have a very productive and encouraging time.
