Oh, Blogger, Where Art Thou?

So what exactly is the deal with blogger?

One BG wrote this at the end of her comment the other day: I'm going to sign in as either other or anonymous here because as a fellow blogger I can't post comments because I'm on beta with Bloggers new system and right now they don't talk to each other. Very frustrating.

Yes, I know blogger’s in the middle of doing this beta gig, although I’m not quite sure what the deal is. Apparently some have been invited to do the beta twist and some haven’t. I possess no enlightenment as to what sorts of behavior the beta-ites have engaged in that I have not. To this date, I and Forensics and Faith remain uninvited to the party.

Maybe I’m the last to know this, but it wasn’t long ago that I even learned blogspot is owned by google. Could have knocked me over with a feather. So what’s google’s excuse? How many times do you go to the google home page and find it slow to load, or totally unavailable? Uh-huh. That's what I thought. Now how many times to you try to load a blogger post, or comment to a post—and find nothing happens?

I have found a helpful site to see what’s what if you run into problems:
blogger status. Just take a look at this site's postings for the past few days:

Thursday, November 02, 2006: Photo uploading is having problems currently on www.blogger.com. We are working on fixing the problem. Update 2:45 PM (PST): The issue has been fixed.

Wednesday, November 01, 2006: There are currently problems with photo uploading, we are working on fixing them. Update 11:40 AM(PST): This issue has been resolved.

Monday, October 30, 2006: We have been working through a series of publishing issues since Saturday morning. The problems have been transient: for some users they were more frequent than for others. We are still working to resolve this completely and will post updates. Blogger beta has not been affected. Update: this has been fixed.

Sunday, October 29, 2006: There are problems with publishing to blogs. We are working on fixing this. Blogs on the beta are not affected. Update 9:14 AM (PST): Publishing works now, expect some slowness though as we wrap up fixing this issue. Update 16:52 PST: Blogger is inaccessible due to a problematic piece of networking hardware - it should be fixed soon. Update 17:00 PST: The networking issue has been fixed.

Thursday, October 26, 2006: Sincere apologies for the short notice but we will take down both blogger.com and blogspot.com at 2 PM PST today to replace the piece of network equipment that was causing the outages…

I read this and wonder if the poor blogger geeks ever get any sleep. They are fixing things practically 'round the clock.

Any BGs out there know the scoop? Why can’t we bloggers just blog and upload photos and generally behave like blog hogs in blog heaven? Will the google glitch madness ever stop?

P.S. I tried loading today's photo five times and gave up. An hour later, it worked.

Yes, technology is a blessing and a curse. I was asked to be a contributor to another blog, but I had switched to Beta and the other blog was not. So... no contribution from me.

But if you are in Beta and you want to post a comment on a non-Beta site, there is a little link under the "choose an identity" portion that allows you to switch to your beta account.

I've heard that Google has a huge campus that has food and drycleaning and a gym, etc so their employees can essentially do anything there.

Except, apparently, fix your photo issue. :)

Well, I worked around it.

My blog is one that is in beta now and I wasn't able to post on many blogger's comments. I was also invited to be a weekly blogger at a group blog. I couldn't post there.

So, I created a blogger name that looks exactly like my ohter one when I post. Therefore I can do comments and post.

As for pictures, I host my images at photobucket.com and plug the code into my message. I don't have to wait for blogger.

I'm obviously not as patient as you Brandilyn. LOL

That post was my beta account. This one is my blogger account.

You can only tell the difference when you click on the profile.

You got me! I'm so clueless I just learned how to post a picture on my blog yesterday. I get so tired of typing comments on people's blog which just dissapear when I hit "publish".

I didn't realize you could actually use blogger to insert pictures! I'm with Michelle though, I use photobucket for uploading pics. I don't have much time to spend waiting on blogger. I do get aggrevated when the whole system isn't working! How are you Brandilyn? If you get a chance, check out our blog. I've posted our pumpkin carving and Olyvia's 1st Halloween. I know you don't care for Halloween, but the pics are the best part!

Well, Blogger is a bit more complicated than the Google home page (from my surface level knowledge).

Imagine trying to have to support hundreds of thousands of people all posting unique entries and photos and templates to your database on a near constant basis. That is a lot of stress on the servers (computers that host the information that lets you blog).

And think about how quickly Blogger has been growing in just the last few months.

so yeah, the errors are annoying, but I can understand how they'd happen, hopefully though they won't last too much longer. Probably a lot of what the Beta is meant to help with too.

Eden, Olyvia is adorable in that angel costume. You other BGs, you should go to "Air Force Family's blog and see them.

In only--what is it, Eden, a few months now?--Olyvia's daddy will leave his wonderful family to do his service in the military. Steve, our country is so grateful for people like you.

Now, see, this is why Chick-lit is so popular. "I want it, and I want it now!" Lol--yeah, I get bugged by blogger sometimes.

Thank you Brandilyn! Yes, Steve will be leaving for BMT in January. After BMT, he heads out for Monterey, CA; we will follow him there. He will be learning Farsi (the language spoken in Iran). He's very excited. Not only will he be learning a difficult language, but once learned, he'll be able to actually have a conversation with his Mahmon Bazorg (grandmother), who still lives in Iran. Thank you for dropping by to visit our blog, hope to see you again soon.
Oh! I don't know if I mentioned this, but... I finished Violet Dawn! Wow!! It's a great book, definitely kept me on my toes wondering what would happen next. I'll be starting Eyes of Elisha soon. Thank for the book, by the way. I don't know if I said thank you previously. Now, I just have to wait 2-3 months before entering your contest again. :(
Thank you for supporting Steve, it means alot to know that there are Americans out there that do appreciate our boys (soldiers).

It was pretty insane a few days ago with posting pics. I just went in, came back out, saved to draft like crazy until everything was finished.

Sigh...

Life's like that sometimes.

I came here from blogging chicks, and I really liked your blog. I'll have to read your books as well to complete the experience. Please feel free to come to my "pad" anytime.

Thank you, Sudiegirl. I left a comment on your blog. I enjoyed your post about writing a letter to God.

LOL, it was me who made the comment Brandilyn quoted about my beta blogger not talking to the non-beta blogger accounts. Someone said here that they sign in on their new beta blogger account and then they can post. Not me. I've tried that, as well as other countless ways to outsmart the system. I am tired of it all so for now, I'm an other.

One good thing about the beta account, Brandilyn, is that I've had no trouble uploading pictures since I went beta. Absoluely none. Works like a charm.

Well, I'm with WordPress because Blogger hates me. I could not--COULD NOT--do more than create a profile. They don't like the software I'm using I think. I still get messages from time to time that I can't leave a note or whatever because my java script is disabled (but it isn't).

I have to say, I am thoroughly happy with WP (well, most of the time LOL) At least it doesn't seem to give me the intermittent trouble Blogger-ites seem to experience.

There's a whole world out there of frustrated Blogger people! And Beta is the biggest problem of all...they haven't ironed out all the bugs yet, and I'm really surprised that Pam Meyers is having no trouble uploading pictures to Beta...when the whole rest of the Beta world is..LOL!

If you want to see the thousands of problems...go here Google Blogger Help Forums

Oh and another FYI...Google owns Technorati also!
