A single feature digital photo album like that is probably quite sensible, but for the same price range there are portable media players that are basically generic iPhone clones. You can buy them direct from China here.
My mom doesn't want any gadgets though.
But if your mom likes gadgets, a cell-phone-in-a-watch are pretty cool.

Well... I was going to ask Hubby for some lawn furniture, but this is more economical and definitely something I'd love to have in my purse to share with others :)
