My Un-Post on The Big Day

Nope, not posting on October fifth. I think I deserve a day off. Today I hit The Big Five-Oh.

Therefore, on this auspicious day in the year of our Lord 2006, I do hereby declare the floor open for birthday greetings. (And come on, BGs--where are your comments lately? We've fallen to a mere pittance of a percentage of commenters.) So here's your chance to make up for your lurkiness. Hit me with well-wishes in the form of Confucious Says; clever witticisms; Haiku, limericks or other fine verse; or whatever else strikes your creative chord.

Come on, you're writers, for heaven's sake. Lay it on me.

  3. Fifty, wow. I'd have guessed 30. You're a sensation. A success. A woman of rare beauty and unspeakable talent. Your smile is pure sunshing and your eyes the most precious of gems.

As you can see I like to give suck up as an inexpensive gift that almost everyone appreciates.

Big hug for your birthday. You are much loved!

  5. May the Lord bless you and keep you. May He make HIs face to shine upon you. And may He fill your mind with diabolical plot twists that will keep your readers begging for more as they try to remember to breathe!

And may He bless you with a season of refreshment as you have served so many.

  6. I'm on my way to a funeral (we pastor a church). So, I'm thinking funereally (?) this morning.

Hey, maybe that's appropriate since I'm about to wish you a happy Big 50! (I'm thinking about those black banners and paper plates for 50th birthday parties at Party City.)

    Happy birthday, Brandilyn!!

I'll Meet You In the Morning...

    In the Garden...

    Won't It Be Wonderful There?

Everybody Will Be Happy Over There

What A Day That Will Be

    I'll Be Satisfied

  8. Once upon a violet dawning
    Whereupon the vacant awning
I heard a most atrocious sound.
    And upon the hidden face
I sprayed a bottle of my mace
    Then tazed without said grace.

Elisha's eyes turned red and cried
But that was just before they dried
    And my dread champion arrived.
    Then upon the lying web
I laid my trouble on the dead
    Then dropped a ten-pound lead.

Once the barest night set in
    And much to my chagrin
I heard again the voice within my soul.
    Suddenly I laughed out loud,
Came on out and then I bowed
To my fans, the rolling crowd.

    Confetti splayed in vast array
    Sparing nothing to dismay
And they sang a birthday dirge.
    The voices inside my head
No longer filled my heart with dread--
Cake and ice cream in the night not dead.

Well, that didn't turn out as I'd hoped. But maybe it made you laugh, and you did say you wanted verse. Albeit, you said fine verse...but happy birthday. I had to try. 0=)

  9. Happy Birthday, Brandilyn!!
And many more years of happiness to you!!

She's fifty and looking so good
She keeps writing just as she should
    Her fiction's so scary
    Her readers are wary
They read wearing an oxygen hood.

Halfway to one hundred it's true
Being fifty should not make you blue
    Be happy, Redhead,
    That you find characters dead
When you begin a new Chapter Two

    Sorting through settings and scenes
And creating that great SCENES AND BEANS
    Is not enough
    For BC's so tough
She does it wearing sparkly jeans

  12. Sorry about the newbie error. When I realized my mistake about that whole Chapter Two business, I had to do it over.

Halfway to one hundred - Oh, Hon'!
You're fifty and still you do run
    Be happy, Redhead,
    That you find characters dead
When you begin a new CHAPTER ONE.

    Better?

  13. Brilliant red blaze

    Happy Birthday, Brandilyn.
Good to finally meet you at ACFW.

Hair like the autumn maple leaf,
    Smile like the sunrise,
    Grins and guffaws,
    with sequin eyes.

    Pen like a weapon, poised,
    Working like a piston,
    Free yet labored,
    Words create a shocking noise.

Ah, the birthday comes like an inevitable guest,
    Knocking like a summoner,
Racing forward, not at a walk,
A year to welcome as your best.

    Happy Birthday, Brandilyn

(It's been awhile since I did poetry--like only once in a truly blue moon since those 20s, and they're long gone. Seen the half-century mark and raced on . . . I marveled that I had lived a half century when it came. Mortality's whispers are now in common voice.)

I'm afraid I'm not being very creative today :).

Happy Birthday, Brandilyn. On this auspicious occasion--you are 50, after all--I want you to know I would make you coffee, drive you to Best Buy in a timely and direct fashion, buy you a mocha, remembering to ask for only half the chocolate, water your flowers and pinch the dead ones, even wash your windows. But, oh yea. You’re not here right now. Guess I’m off the hook. But I would of.

    Happy, happy birthday, dear friend.

    HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!

May you be blessed with 50 more :)

    Enjoy your day.

  22. Just for you, Brandilyn! Happy b-day. (Enjoy the new decade. It's always nice to get a fresh start. Early fifties sounds so much younger than late forties, don't you think? ;-)

There was a great writer most read
Who killed all her characters dead.
    The books were a bang--
    The villain will hang,
But not 'til the final plot thread.

  23. Yay, thank you, BGs! You rock!

I've been traveling all day--tell you why tomorrow. I've stopped in the Chicago airport and turned on the computer. People around me are giving me strange looks for all the giggles...

  25. Nothing terribly creative in this comment, Brandilyn. Just a heartfelt Happy Birthday, and prayers for a blessed year. I'm thankful that God planted you on the earth a few years ahead of me, because now I am learning so much from you. May you live to murder many more:)

  26. Happy, Happy, Happy and welcome to the club! Turned the big 5-oh this year too and am learning that many wonderful people and things share our milestone--including Disneyland! Cool, huh? And BTW, 50 is the new 40. (Started to say 35 but I can't pass for that any more:-) Enjoy your day!

    Abundant blessings,

  29. I'm late, but Happy Birthday Brandilyn.

  30. Well, I'm really late. I was waiting while I thought up something fantabulous to write. Ahem, so many other did such a great job. However, my poor little peabrain shut down right after Numb3rs last night and I went on a Girl's Day Out today with my neice.

Soooooo, I'll steal one and sing....
    Happy Bird-day two ewe
    Happy Bird-day two ewe
    Happy bird-day two eweeeeeeeeee
    Happy bird-day two ewe!

And I DO NOT believe you are 50. But then look at your mom. You look awesome.
    Hugs!
