Updates & Looking Forward for F&F

Updates on Liz and Katy:

I did not hear from Good Morning America yesterday. I'm thinking the longer this goes, the less likely we are to see that story develop. I still hope it does. All the same, so much good has come out of the publicity we've received. Even the possibility of a GMA story has helped get the ball rolling on numerous issues.

EHC LifeBuilders in the Silicon Valley area of California has been looking for housing for Katy and Liz for some time year--long before I heard of their situation. Despite their efforts, nothing had become available. Now EHC has a solid lead on a place for Liz and Katy to live. It's not a done deal yet, but it's wonderful news. They will be checking into it further this morning. EHC is a 26-year-old organization dedicated to helping the homeless in the Santa Clara/San Jose area. It's an organization well worth donating to. That can be done here.

Katy made two updates to her blog yesterday. Check it out for art work and her latest news.

I had a great interview yesterday with Steve Deace, host of the 4-7 p.m. show on WHO NewsRadio (1040, Iowa). We talked for about half an hour regarding Liz and Katy, and how my online use of this blog, Twitter and Facebook spread the story. It certainly has been an amazing look at viral marketing and how something can take off. The connection with Steve happened through Facebook, by the way. His wife, a reader of my books, is one of my Facebook "friends."

And now a note to those of you who've been reading Forensics and Faith for a long time. Thanks for hangin' with me as this story took off. I know it's been awhile since we've discussed the craft of fiction, the Christian publishing business, marketing, etc. All of those things will return. Meanwhile, I challenge you once again--is there a homeless family in your area you could be helping? Or could you make a donation to Liz and Katy, or an organization such as EHC? One person can make a tremendous difference.

I'll post updates throughout the day as necessary. Blessings to you all, old BGs and new.

Thanks for the updates. This story of Liz and Katy is more important that discussing fiction, publishing, and marketing for a while. You're doing what you're supposed to be doing right now. Keep it up. God bless.

Totally agree with Lynn. As much as I look forward to the fiction discussions, this is a God thing, and I've been tuning in frequently for updates.

Besides, any writer who doesn't see this as a lesson in the value of viral marketing is not paying attention. :)

I agree ~ people are more important.

It's been on my heart for a while now to really get to know my neighbors and see how I can show God's love to them without preaching the gospel, if you know what I mean. The people who live next door are in a bad way financially and health-wise. I've been taking them dinner whenever I can and checking in from time to time. I also gave them a gift card to a grocery store intead of the usual plate of cookies my neighbors get a Christmas. They are not homeless, but every month they wonder if they will be.

I think we need to do what we can. In fact, Proverbs 3:27-28 says, "Do not withold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act. Do not say to your neighbor, 'Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow' when you now have it with you."

Something to think about.
